Kimberley Ward leads ratemaking actuarial services at Xceedance. Kim has been active in the property-casualty insurance business for over 30 years, with an emphasis on property casualty rate making and product development. She has expertise in leadership and strategy execution, facilitating innovation and creativity in industry change.
Prior to joining Xceedance, Kim worked at Hastings Mutual Insurance Company as the Director of Actuarial Services, where she lead the overhaul of rate level indications and facilitated the implementation of predictive analytics into several lines of business. In addition to her pricing role, she provided metrics for use in building the company’s enterprise risk management and the development of its sample ORSA; worked with Finance on agents’ compensation plans; supported strategic planning; and provided for the successful deployment of analytics into companywide functions. Kim is skilled in actuarial management, developing the company’s Actuarial Study Program.
In addition to HMIC, Kim worked at Grinnell Mutual Insurance Company, Windsor Strategy Partners, CNA, and The Resolution Group. During these years, Kim provided pricing support for personal and commercial lines and specialized in asbestos and pollution reserving.
Kim was also Chief Actuary at American Association of Insurance Services, providing leadership on 19 lines of business, using catastrophe modeling for homeowners by peril rating and earthquake studies. In addition, she calculated terrorism pricing and conducted several special studies.
Kim is active on industry committees. She is currently on the working groups for the Rate Making, Product and Modeling Meeting and the CAS Spring Meeting. She is also treasurer of the West Michigan Chapter of the CPCU. In the past, she has been an active member of the Professional Education and Exam committees among others. She was a member of the Terrorism Risk Taskforce of the American Academy of Actuaries and the 2007-2008 President of the Midwestern Actuarial Forum.
Kim is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), and an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) by The Institutes. She is also an Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS).
